AusCERT 2022

The AusCERT Conference is the oldest information security conference in Australia. The event’s theme this year was…. Rethink, Reskill, Reboot….which provided a great conversation starter and idea stimulator.

AusCERT2022 focused on how to Rethink, Reskill, Reboot our knowledge, skills and enthusiasm for cyber security as we fight the good fight together through 4 feature-packed days of tutorials, presentations and opportunities to connect with cyber security professionals from Australia and New Zealand.

It’s safe to say it was a resounding success with the return of many faithful attendees along with many first-time delegates and presenters.

It was great to mingle amongst vendors, end users from an array of industries, and like-minded cyber security professionals.

The first couple of days involved all-day tutorials, one on ‘Conducting Cyber Table tops – A practice Guide on how to deliver your own cyber risk scenario’, which was a great learning session on ways to help develop the skills to deliver scenarios, either individually or with expert assistance and the next all-day tutorial was on ‘Cyber Security Risk Management’ which presented a great diversity of opinion on where and how best to protect information systems.

A standout was AusCERT2022’s keynote speaker, Kath Koschel. Kath had faced serious personal, mental and physical setbacks but her resilience had allowed her not only to overcome these challenges, but also see the good in the world when most others couldn’t. Sharing her story with us saw many with tears but also, smiles and a resolve to each do #OneSmallAct of kindness each and every day.

I am thankful for great conversations, great networking, new leads, new friends, and some impactful learnings.
